It's Earth Day

Apparently it's Earth Day today. Which fits in perfectly with the weekend we've had which we spent working like dogs in the garden, elbow deep in the stuff.

I did well at the First Car Boot of the Season, getting climbing plants, alpines and bedding plants as well as two enormous bunches of roses for a song. Well, not literally, I don't think anyone would give me anything if I started singing. Although maybe to make me go away.

I do love a dry stone wall, both the look of them and the fact that the idea is so simple and yet so clever. The man of the house built that with his own hands last summer. I was a labourer's assistant, moving sandy old chunks of stone around. Glamour is my byword.

That purple plant is aubretia. I want to get some edelweiss in there too.

Below here is an everlasting sweet pea and a clematis to go over the rose arch. I want honeysuckle and jasmine too for the scent. In the summer I love falling asleep with a little posy of honeysuckle by my bedside. At night the perfume is so beautiful.

It was quite a focussed expedition to the FCBofS, because he was with me and I had emotionally blackmailed persuaded him to come entirely based on the premise that we were going for plants.

However I did manage one or two small purchases. My technique is to dart very quickly when he is not paying attention. I make my purchase with ruthless efficiency, then enjoy watching his bemused expression as he realises he has lost me and I see him looking round, blinking. My mother used to have a similar shopping technique, so it can't be my fault if it's genetic, can it?

I saw this little lampshade and thought it would be perfect with this deer lamp I've had for ages.

I found this Regency Ware 1960s bin at the car booty and since this post is becoming very floral, I thought I would show you this Sanderson cushion I got a couple of weeks ago in the charity shop.

Finally, on Nature Watch, a pair of carved wooden goat bookends.

According to the lady in the chazza, these were dropped off by a gentleman who lived in the former Rhodesia. I do love to hear any titbits I can about my newly acquired possessions, and if they have an exotic past which involves travel, so much the better.

I like what Keith at Musings of an Unapologetic dreamer has to say about Earth day.

What I have to say is Happy Earth Day earthlings!

The lampshade is so pretty. (I am currently on the hunt for a red or black shade atm too.) I can't pass up a good lamp. (Even if it comes shade-less, in this case the shade was in too bad of shape to bring home so I left it behind) *heheh*

The 1960s Regency Ware bin is lovely I would have wanted to purchase it too.

Busy busy bee, you've been! I bet the garden is going to be stunning by the summer, and smell even better. Nothing beats aubretia tumbling down a dry stone wall, especially a homemade one (clever Mister!) and clematis, honeysuckle and jasmine will be divine. I will expect lots of photos when the time comes.
Well done on the sneaky car boot technique, I am impressed. And I love your lampshade (cutie pie deer lamp base too!) and the bin and the cushion. Goat bookends - nothing holds back the rampaging paperbacks like a pair of goats!
Earth Day, huh? I should probably have known that... I am hopeless. You are fabulous.
PS. Sheffield's balls know you too, and hope you will revisit them sometime soon. xxxxx

Goat book ends, fancy shades and a swanky bin...I'm drooling. I shall go car booting this weekend!
Your garden looks fantastic and so does the sneak peek at your home. You need Edelweiss and a life size herd of plastic cows with bells to complete the look and perhaps Q would be kind enough to recreate the Alps in miniature whilst you're at it. If it's worth doing.. and all that! xxxxx

Wow, I love your floral buys and the deer. Ooh and goat bookends. I agree, it's always a bonus if you get to hear a little snippet about who owned an item before you did. xx

Doe, a deer....I could get into deer, when they're this bloody cute! The Bambi movie soundtrack is the first vinyl I remember having...but I digress.....

Love your choices!

ha! I do though, wall growing plants are one of my favourites and so is honeysuckle, quite a lot of it grows in the woods behind my house. The little lamp shade is wonderful, it reminds me of something chucked out of my Nana's house before I had time to grab it, so it makes me feel a bit sentimental. I also love the lamp it's now paired with! Very cute indeed. You get some great stuff, those cushions are really pretty. The antelope/goats - not sure which, are rather fantastic! I love the idea that they've travelled from somewhere in Africa! Happy Earth day!

The man of the house did a brilliant job on that stone wall Tania, it's a thing of beauty, and once the Aubretia starts cascading down it's going to look even more amazing. Naked or dressed I love it.
