I almost feel this post doesn't need words, the pictures seem to do most of the work for me. But I'll tell you what it's all about. Our friends from Finland were over for a flying visit, so we met up. The setting was Ashover in rural Derbyshire. A traditional Georgian country pub lunch, followed by a traditional country walk. It's a quintessential English village with a small shop, a Post office and a couple of pubs. The country girl in me would happily live there.
Back home, we luxuriated in the sunshine. It's such a lovely time of the year to be out in the garden. Every day you see developments, a shoot sticking up here, a flower unfurling its petals there.

Apple blossom. Rosemary and potato bread. Home grown leaves for a green salad.

This one is a Pasque flower. Such a fantastic colour combination, the purple and orange.

We're doing our utmost to cover that huge fence we put up this time last year. Clematis Montana. A joy in April.

Oh, city slicker, all the way. But don't tell my mum, she'll be upset; "townie" is the worst insult she can think of. City slicker with a garden is a good compromise; city slicker with occasional forays into the countryside, nice.
Derbyshire is hard to beat if you're a little bit country. (Sheffield's good if you're a little bit rock'n'roll - and you'll be here soon, so that's good!)
Look at your glorious garden and its blooms, and the gorgeous bread and home grown lettuce. I think you need a TV show. Teatime with Tania. Mmmmm! xxxx
I was a townie but now I'm a county bumpkin, living in a semi rural area. I love the quietness and the wildlife but I do also enjoy the occasional trip to the smoke and all the hustle and bustle that comes with it. Your rosemary and potato bread looks delicious. Btw, tried to 'follow' you again but GFC won't let me as it thinks I am already.
Bloody annoying. xx
Love the home grown salad leaves and bread. Beautiful flowers tool Your garden really gives back all the effort you put in xx
Definitely a townie. I love driving through the countryside and the odd stroll but the dead things at the side of the road, the huge expenses of nothingness and not being able to drive would send me mad in the end.
Your rosemary bread and salad look absolutely wonderful and I was eyeing up that Clematis Montana at the car boot on Thursday. Are they easy to care for? xxxxx
I yearn to live in the country! These pix are gorgeous, and how lovely to give those Finns a real English countryside experience!!!
I was once a real deal country bumpkin, but can do either, although I am liking cities less and less.
XXXXXXXXXXXX
What a sweet little town and the view at your place beautiful! I want a salad from your garden! I have the best of both worlds at my house because we live at the urban boundary so I have city to one side and farmland on the other.
I wish I was going to the next meet up so I could hug you in person and say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your kind caring words during this time. I have been lifted by the outpouring of love. You gals are my support in so many ways.
Lotsoflove
Xxxxxxxooooooooo
What a beautiful place! I'm absolutely a country girl and I so agree with the title of your post! I need nature all around me to be happy :)
Lovely photos, and your garden is looking beautiful.
A city bumkin I think. I like best of both though I wouldn't say no to a place in the middle of nowhere.xxxxx
