And relax...

We've had a wonderful time with our guests. A few young people came to visit and everyone knows that leaves you with one simple choice; walkies or trouble.

We chose walkies!

But now we've finished visiting and being visited and today all I feel like doing is lounging around.

My 1940's house coat, which I bought here. I have just altered the sleeves a bit so I can get my arms in without having a panic attack.

The dress has such lovely detailing. These are the tassles which are on the zipper down the front of the dress. I bought these shoes in Bath many years ago. They are called Nite-Aires Leisure Lovelies. I feel like Vivien Leigh in Gone with the Wind whenever I put them on.

The dress is handmade and by a complete coincidence I found almost the exact pattern on ebay this morning in this shop.

Here's a gratuitous shot of Vivien Leigh just lounging around. I think I might rather like my boudoir like that.
Amazingly, I have found time over the break to do a bit of this as well. The first (book) is set in Alaska and, the second (film) India. Couldn't be more different. I love to read, but only do it when I have time because I know that once I start, I can't stop. Everything else goes by the wayside.

I bought this Eastern European folk plate in a charity shop and promptly broke it. There was a bit of a kerfuffle in Asda ladies and this was the result. Sigh. I also acquired a rather lovely linen tablecloth with a map of Australia plus various animals and plants. I'm a bit of a sucker for a nice tablecloth.

What extremely glamorous lounging-about wear! And fluffy slippers too - the sign of a real Lounging Lady, I always think!
Oh what a shame about the plate... I hope the charity shop gods gift you with another. xxx

Oh yes, it was wonderful, all that colour and life and crumbling splendour, just so atmospheric. I used to do so much sewing but it's gone by the by, must get back into it. Happy New Year to you too Helga! xxx

I just love it all! And you look very sophisticated in your loungeabout! Are those your lovely swans?

Hi Tami, they were such a beautiful pair of swans, it reminded me of a Vernon Ward scene. They were at a nature reserve not far from here. Technically the Queen owns them as she does all 'mute' swans in the UK. Apparently it's a tradition which dates back to the 12th century. xx

Well, doesn't this post make pace and relaxation look like the new 'going out'?

Fluffy slippers - I've wanted a pair for years, but nearly had a hart attack when I saw how much they go for on ebay.

That gold pouffe is exquisite - where did you get it?

Thank-you for the lovely comment today, it's so exciting to have a new follower who actually comments!

That's funny :) I spend quite a lot of time away from home so staying in with no commitments is a major treat.
The pouffe came from here when she had a sale on http://www.maisondemarrakech.com but there's one on ebay at the moment which is cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MOROCCAN-GOLD-HAND-STITCHED-FAUX-LEATHER-POUFFE-POUF-CUSHION-FURNITURE-/330853333164?pt=UK_Home_Garden_LivingRoom_Bookcases&hash=item4d086538ac
It's my pleasure, your blog is great! :) xx

oooh I do like an old pouffe! Sorry, can't help myself. I adore your housecoat and slippers! I had some pink ones, but my dog ATE them. The bitch. Anyway, you look fab in it, lovely colours too. I love the folk plate too. And your walkies photos, looks wonderful!

Your house dress is beautiful, and those slippers are a childhood dream, slippers like that in the mind of a dreamy kid meant one thing, GLAMOUR!
Nice to see you've got some kitschy Australiana in your house too - sorry about the plate x

Miss Simmonds, your pooch is so naughty! Can't believe she ate your pink slippers!! xx

Kylie, yes, for me they would have been too. I had to settle for a pair of those plastic ones with elastic across the front, but I did ADORE them. xx
